Rehabilitation of the Reformed Church in Dej
At the request of the Reformed Community of Dej, KÉSZ Romania, acting as the general contractor, carried out the complete renovation of the Reformed Church in Dej, a Gothic-style building over 500 years old.
Built in the 15th century, the church required special attention during rehabilitation due to its historical and symbolic importance to the community. The roof and tower were renovated and reconstructed, the exterior façades were cleaned, and the surrounding fence and property grounds were restored. Interior works revealed old layers of plaster, Catholic symbols, and a partially restored fresco.
A new electrical network was installed, under-bench heating replaced the old cast-iron stoves, pews were repaired and repainted, and the stained-glass windows were restored. The 18th-century coffered ceiling was refurbished, and the attic became accessible, revealing its unique painted beams. The total project value was €2.7 million, financed with European funds.
The works took place between 2018 and 2020, with handover in 2021. The renovation not only preserved the building’s condition but also contributed to maintaining the religious life and cultural heritage of the local community.
